Steroids Side Effects on Women: Almost all the serious side effects associated with steroids use occur as a result of taking high doses for long periods of timeand can be serious if they become chronic and include breast enlargement, enlargement of the breasts, changes in vaginal and vaginal fluids, weight gain, increased breast tissue, and abnormal bleeding. See Table, section on "Steroids Side Effects" and Appendix A, section on "Women's Sexual Effects." Side effects of topical steroid use fall into two categories: Systemic side effects and local side effects. Systemic injuries have occurred in association with daily use of steroids, including the following:1 In 100 patients who received corticosteroids for more than 6 months on a daily basis, there were 25 systemic side effects, 15 localized dermatitis-like effects, and 9 other adverse events.2 Systemic effects of daily corticosteroid use are likely to be associated with the acute corticosteroid use and related secondary events.2 Topical steroid administration can result in localized skin and systemic adverse effects (Table 3). Local reactions include allergic skin reactions; systemic reactions are characterized by a decrease in local blood volume, increased intraocular pressure and serum urea levels, and elevated levels of corticosterone, steroid tablets side effects. These systemic effects may be transient or long lasting, tablet after steroids.
