When can you say is the last time you heard an all-female garage, surf band played on the radio? Possibly never. However, Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe on BBC 6 Music and The Undertones' Mickey Bradley on BBC Ulster have realized that women are the current musical saviors. They have been blasting Italy's trio of babes called Smalltown Tigers. These kittys have recently released their debut mini album titled Five Things. Blending their influences like the Ramones, Dick Dale, and Joan Jett - they have a blend of garage surf-punk that has the edge of early bands like Television mixed with the punkabilly of The Stray Cats.
The Tigers have played the 4th birthday of our friends over at Loud Women. They have shared the stage with bands like Baby Shakes, Menstrual Cramps, and Hagar the Womb (all HSR alumni). Brian James from the Damned is a big fan, and their music video for ‘Just Friends’ received its world premiere from the UK’s No.1 punk mag Vive Le Rock!
