Name: Raquel J Alves
Residence: London, UK
Band(s): Sūrya, Prisa Mata, Atavistik Death Pose, Bos Tux (past)
What inspires you to play?: Apart from trying to create music I love and enjoy playing my other inspiration has always being to be able to spread a message, have a voice and give a meaning of what I do. I also have been really lucky to find the right people to do so , like with Sūrya where we got a strong message of Earth, Animal and Human Liberation. Also had the luck to be able to play in Bos Tux with Jill (Dysteria) and Amee (Human Leather) were we got songs about sexual assault ,Anti macho bullshit, animal/Human rights…
Do you face challenges as a woman in the scene?: Umm don’t know if I would call them challenges but got to heard some comments/feedback that my non- females bandmates definitely don’t have to deal with and it can be quite annoying at times.
Thankfully this doesn’t happen too often!!
How do you cope with beauty standards and social media?: Don’t really pay much attention to that to be honest…
What does music do for you? I don’t think I could live without music,is a big part of my life. If I spend more than a week without playing drums it definitely affects my mood. I think music helps me a lot to deal with my social anxiety and mental health too.
